Recently I picked up “Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues” for Xbox (also available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC). I started playing it that morning, and since then I have rarely played anything else. This game is developed by Flux Games Studio and published by GameMill Entertainment. The game is based on the series “Cobra Kai “. Which originally launched on YouTube Red, however these days you can find it on Netflix. The game’s story takes place throughout the first two seasons.
You’re able to pick your dojo: “Miyagi-Do Karate” with Daniel, Sam, Robby, and Demetri; or “Cobra Kai” with Johnny, Miguel, Tory, and Hawk. Each dojo has similar story lines, with some interaction between characters. This is leads to a familiar showdown between LaRusso vs. Johnny…and the mysterious final boss who’s responsible for basically the whole game.
Overall, this game is on point. This beat’em-up game is reminiscent of older games like Streets of Rage 2/TMNT: Turtles in Time, while playing off of different environmental elements (“Miyagi-Do” being ice and “Cobra Kai” being fire) to create pretty cool special moves. Each character has their own move set, while each dojo also has their own move set that each member shares. The combos aren’t too bad to handle, but some of the bosses can be kind of tough and take a few tries to defeat. Trying to upgrade your character’s/dojo’s moves can be confusing and complicated to figure out. Some “Basic Moves” like parrying, can take some time to figure out and handle as well. Achievements & Trophies in this game are decent and not too difficult! However, there are a few that require a grind to complete. If you enjoy the “Cobra Kai” series, enjoy beat-em-ups, or both! Cobra Kai is worth the play through…as long as you remember the rules: Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy.
